What WE DO

Emotional Wellness

Services Offered

Emotional Wellness is a department of Latino Health Access and is part of a holistic support component for the Orange Co community. Different types of cases with emotional difficulties are derived from it, which we will define later on this page.

Our Emotional Wellness programs, specifically in the area of case management, whether one-on-one meetings or the support groups are not provided by conventional therapies since they require various formalities to obtain the license.  However, the community health workers “Promotores”  are constantly trained in narrative therapy practices and other mental health knowledge that help them increase their expertise in the emotional well-being of the participants with considerable success.  These Promotores live and work in the cities where their work is done, so they understand the resources and the barriers heir participants face.

  • These are individual sessions where the participants will have a dignified space that invites trust and confidentiality (45-60 minute sessions). Currently, due to the pandemic, most cases are through phone calls, google meet or zoom. In some emergency cases, we will take in-person meetings with families with who we see the need to be elevated to urgent, and a planned meeting will be developed.

Cases, where the participants need to navigate certain systems, will also receive our support depending on the need of the case.

  • 12 support groups are facilitated from 1 ½ hours to 2 hours a week, with different focuses. Their mission is to provide a time of restorative conversations and learning for the participants. They are broadcast via zoom. For participants with little knowledge of technology, we will support them with this barrier.

Below you will find the description of the focus of each group with their respective names.

  • The “promotores” must receive training and updated information from the CDC regarding infections, variants, and vaccines constantly. The promotores will start by making the call to connect with the person and will ask a series of questions to complete the form required for these cases.

Through this call, they will provide education to prevent the participants from breaking the isolation. If necessary, they will refer to needed services and will ask the participant to remember other potentially infected people who were in contact with them at the highest moment of the contagious stage so necessary follow-up can take place.

  • Referrals received through the Call Center or through the Latino Health Access front desk requesting some type of emotional, medical, basic needs, separation, loss, child custody, etc. will receive follow-up by making at least 3 attempts to contact the participant.

  • The promotores are trained to offer different educational topics developed by the program's education department, which will be offered to groups of children, youth, and adults in schools, community centers, or after-school support centers in person or through zoom.

The promotores create a network with the liaisons, coordinators, or principals in schools or local community centers. Presentations of 1-2 hours are scheduled, focused on training such as:

    1. Mothers to Mothers

    2. Mental Health

    3. Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse

    4. Classes for Parents

    5. Control and Management of Anger (Not certified)

    6. Suicide Prevention

      Plus others
