Diabetes Self-Management Program Replication >
This presentation is designed to help organizations decide whether adopting the Promotores model is a good way to help them meet their goals. Organizations learn the role of Promotores, how Promotores work, the challenges and joys of working with Promotores, working with Promotores within structures like health departments, important qualities to look for in a Promotor, and issues related to sustaining a Promotores program.
In this two day training, Promotores and their supervisors learn about the roles, rights and responsibilities of a Promotor; working in teams; perceptions as a barrier to communication; helping others help themselves using a non-paternalistic, asset-based formula; family visits; individual interviews; small group facilitation; principles of adult education; and group dynamics.
The Latino Health Access Diabetes Self-Management Program achieves statistically significant improvements in clinical markers associated with complications of uncontrolled diabetes. Now organizations that have the infrastructure to support a Promotores program can replicate this highly effective 12-week program, with support from Latino Health Access. The curriculum may also be purchased separately (under Products).
