History of the Tamalada
“Even if we have to sell tamales…”
Latino Health Access welcomes the holiday season with its annual Tamalada or tamale party. We serve a healthy version of this Latin American wrapped corn meal. This year’s party is December 4.
One of our diabetes patients was the inspiration behind the event. The patient’s words echo among our employees and volunteers as they seek to disseminate health information in Orange County while empowering our residents. One patient became partially blind and could not afford the required surgery to fix his vision. Instead of simply giving up, he said he would raise the necessary $5,000, “even if I have to sell tamales.”
We like to think that we share his spirit and resourcefulness as we forge a new era, with new headquarters and coming soon, two new parks for local residents and a Wellness Corridor that will include three square miles in downtown Santa Ana.
We are grateful for supporters like you and look forward to see you at our next tamale party. Until then, please join us at our daily exercise classes and sessions to strengthen the lives of our residents, find us on Facebook, YouTube or donate through our website.
